A host of cars are lined up for an official launch in India the year 2009. The Hyundai i20 is at the top of our curiosity list as it was unveiled at the October 2008 Paris Automobile Expo. The car has been already launched in some European countries. In the United Kingdom the i20 starts with an on-road price of £8,645.
A quick glance of its features follows:
Engine: 1.4-litre 4cyl, 90bhp
Transmission: Five-speed manual, front-wheel drive
0-62mph: 13.6 seconds
Top speed: 107mph
Econ/CO2: 64.2mpg/116g/km
Standard equipment: Air-conditioner, MP3 socket with display screen, electric front windows, active head restraints, six airbags.
If the Indian version of the car follows the same design of the five-door hatchback of the international version the i20 is sure to win a big fan following. The car is likely to replace the Hyundai Getz series. The pricing of the i20 will be a big factor as other leading car-makers are also coming out with their small cars.
So even before the car is officially launched in India we have a potential candidate for the winner of the Best Small Car of 2009.
Let us wait and watch.
